Receding hairlines for men are definitely a cause for concern. Don’t make the mistake of waiting till you get a bald patch before seeing a doctor specializing in hair replacement for men. The more you ignore the issue, the higher are the chances of permanent damage.
There are two commonly used hair transplants for men – FUT and FUE:
What is FUT?
Follicular Unit Transplantation or FUT involves selecting skin from specific hair-bearing positions on the scalp. This layer is cut out and grafted to the affected areas in need of restoration. The edges of the skin are then sutured together to close the wound. There is a continuous, linear scar after the surgery. It takes about two weeks to recover.
What is FUE?
Follicular Unit Extraction or FUE is when each follicle is extracted one by one, which takes a long time, and often requires multiple sessions. Each graft leaves a tiny scar – when the procedure is complete there is small discontinuous scarring in several places. FUE surgeries require one week of post-operative care.
What is ARTAS and FUSS?
A modification of this method is known as Follicular Unit Strip Surgery or FUSS, where strips of follicles from healthy, hair-bearing areas of the scalp are extracted and transplanted on the thinning or balding portion. Here too, the wound is healed by suturing. It is faster than standard FUE as allows several areas to be treated in one session.
Nowadays, the ARTAS method is one of the best variations of FUE, where a robotic arm uses advanced digital mapping techniques to locate and extract hair individually from donor areas. The recovery time is super-fast and the hair is inclined to grow in a more natural fashion. Hair restoration for women can be done with ARTAS too.
