What are they exactly?
Blackheads are tiny bumps on the skin that are dark in color caused by clogged hair follicles (dead skin cells and oil). Blackheads appear darker in color because they are exposed to air and then oxidize. Fortunately, they are a very mild form of acne and can be treated quite easily.
Where can I get them?
Blackheads can be anywhere including the face, back, chest, shoulders, arms, and neck.
Who can get them?
Those who are prone to blackheads are individuals whose skin produces a lot of oil, are going through hormonal changes and puberty, menstruation or those who are taking birth control.
How can I treat blackheads?
There are a couple of good ideas to try when getting rid of blackheads: try and leave a salicylic gel on them so that over a couple of weeks they can loosen up, try using a cleansing brush such as a Clarisonic to get a deeper clean, get them professionally extracted from the skin, exfoliate a few times a week, use a topical retinoid, use clay masks, try a facial, and especially seek out a dermatologist for extra help!
